“Designing UI’s for Embedded Devices, in 3.5 “simple” steps.”

by Nuno Pinheiro

Abstract

In this talk, we will explore the process for designing a UX/UI in the embedded space. How we can use Qt and Qt-Creator/Designer to be a part of the workflow and some basic rules for a more pleasing visual experience.

There is a myriad of familiar consumer electronics and home appliances filled with features and corresponding configuration “screens”. “Smart”, fridges, stoves, heavy duty trucks, all suddenly integrated with new features and Internet connectivity.

Combined with greater expectations from the consumer, for what constitutes a “tolerable” UI, today’s “smart” devices must also have user interfaces (UI) that are engaging, enticing, and easy to use.

In this talk, we will explore the process for designing a UX/UI in the embedded space. We will try to break it into its main work components and its workflow patterns, and how we can use Qt and Qt-Creator/Designer to be a part of the workflow.
